Save this post for those times when you hate goals, don't see the point in them, can't seem to stick to them, or beat yourself up for failing at them 😅.

Feeling mentally or physically exhausted? Try this Feeling mentally or physically exhausted? Try this:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1) Pare down your to-do list to only the things that absolutely, positively, have to get done today. Then use the extra time to slow down, listen to your body, and give it what it needs.
2) Brain dump everything that’s going on inside your head onto paper. This will help it feel less intimidating and might even lead to some great solutions.
3) Rest and have fun. Carve out a little time to do something just for you! Your work, home, family, etc. will all be better off if you allow yourself to recharge.

I used to think so, but now I'm not so sure 🤔.

Instead of setting fleshed-out, measurable goals this year, I'm setting open-ended goals based on the values I want to take priority in my life. There’s a new post on the blog today if you want more info.

I was TERRIFIED.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Did I nail it out of the park? Nope!
•Did I make mistakes and stumble over my words? More than I'd have liked 😅.
•But did I learn and grow in skill, confidence, and experience? 100%.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the keys to confidence is doing things that scare you, things you’re not quite sure you know how to do, or things you’ve never done before.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Growth brings confidence.

Overall, this was an amazing reading year! Not only did I hit my long-time goal of reading 104 books in a year, but I listened to more audiobooks than I ever have, read more fiction than I ever have, and more than half of what I read was either 4 or 5 stars 🙌🏼.

It's so easy to get distracted, but I'll just keep doing my best to come back to these again and again.

Goals tend to bring up a lot of emotions for people. Some people live for them. Some people hate them. And everything in between.

I personally LOVE goals! I set them at all times of year, but I love the fresh start of a new year to really get me pumped 🥳.

Holiday overwhelm is real.

I can't tell you how many times I've gotten on Instagram, seen someone else doing something, and felt the pressure to do it too 😅.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A service opportunity, a gift to buy, a tradition to start, a treat to make, a place to decorate, a thing to teach my kids. There are SO MANY GOOD IDEAS OUT THERE.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seriously, people are amazing! 👏🏼👏🏼🤯
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I can't do all of them. And that's okay!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Besides, just because something is a good thing doesn't mean it's a good thing for me or my family.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the same is true for you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I know that's a reallllly loaded question 😅. This time of year there are so many have tos, want tos, that looks funs, maybe I shoulds, I wish I coulds, what if wes, and on and on and on.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are gifts to buy, people to serve, memories to make, feelings to create, and messages to share. And it's easy to get caught up in all of the chaos--many times fun, happy chaos, but chaos just the same.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We can't do everything. We have to let some things go. Sometimes those things are really fun. Sometimes they're even important. But it does nobody any good to run yourself ragged trying to fit in more than is humanly possible 😉.

Pick what matters most, focus on that, and let the rest happen if it happens.

And that means it's really easy for me to overdo it and feel stress, overwhelm, and frustration.

Simplifying is something I've been working on for the past few years. Simplifying my home. Simplifying my routines. Simplifying the expectations I place on myself. And every time I simplify, I feel my life shift into something more beautiful.

I LOVE this time of year, but it can also be a lot, so I'm keeping this list handy for those inevitable moments when I start to spiral out.
