Being dairy free or low dairy can be challenging, but with some creativity you can still enjoy ice cream-like treats, like this dairy free Oreo shake. With green food coloring, this also makes the perfect festive Shamrock Shake for St. Patrick’s Day.

St. Patrick’s Day is the one holiday I’ve always wanted to get into, but never seem to do much (if anything) for. Half the time I forget it’s St. Patrick’s Day until I’m out and about and someone mentions I’m not wearing green. Oops.

But I always regret it. It’s such a fun holiday!

So I’m changing things. This year we’re doing some fun St. Patrick’s Day things over at our house. And those festivities have already begun.

Non-Dairy Frozen Shamrock Treat

Today I’m sharing a recipe I came up with in an attempt to create a dairy free shamrock shake for my daughter. Her tummy doesn’t do well with high amounts of dairy (ice cream, yogurt, and milk being the biggest offenders). She gets that from me, unfortunately. But she always talks about ice cream and I still wanted her to have something fun and yummy to enjoy!

Dairy Free Oreo Shake Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup dairy free milk (my favorite is Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Coconut)
  • One frozen banana
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Honey to taste
  • 8 drops food coloring (I use Watkins brand because it’s dye free! It’s also gluten free, if you need that.)
  • 3.5 mint Oreos
  • Dairy free whipped cream (Reddi Whip makes both an almond version and a coconut version. We prefer the coconut, but both are good!)

Recipe

  1. Place the milk, banana, vanilla, honey, and food coloring in the blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Add three of the Oreos and pulse until they’re broken into you’re desired consistency. We prefer chunky over here!
  3. Pour into a glass, then swirl some whipped cream on top and add the last half Oreo as a garnish.
  4. Enjoy! We like to use a thick reusable straw like these ones.

Extra Information

This recipe serves one. I created it that way for those who only have one dairy free family member. That being said, this was delicious and everyone loved it. So if you want to make it for the whole family (or have multiple dairy free family members), simply double, triple, or quadruple the recipe!

Dairy Free Deliciousness

Being dairy free (or even low dairy, like us) can be a challenge. But it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on delicious desserts like ice cream! You just have to get a little creative.
